2007 Awards Dinner

The Royal Military Institute of Manitoba handed out six awards at this year's awards dinner held Friday, May 4th at the Hotel Fort Garry.

• Civilian defense specialists Doctor Peter St John and Doctor Tom Marks were installed as Fellows of the Institute. Both have made significant contributions to the defense world over their extensive careers.
• The University of Manitoba was singled out this year for it's special efforts over the years to assist the military with programs offering upgrades and new degrees to serving and newly enlisted officers. University President Doctor Emoke Szathmary was on hand to accept the award.
• Former Chief Justice of the province of Manitoba, the Honourable Alfred Monnin was given the institute's Twice the Citizen award for his contributions as a Captain with the Royal Regiment of Canada during World War Two and his significant work as a lawyer, judge and citizen since the war.
• Premier Gary Doer was on hand to accept the Patriot Award on behalf of the province of Manitoba. Of particular importance in deciding to honour the province was it's decision  to support our reserve troops while deployed overseas in calling on employers to guarantee their jobs.
• And retired Lieutenant General Ray Crabbe was given the Patriot Award for his outstanding career as a soldier rising to the position of Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff and for his continuing service as a civilian chairing a United Nations steering committee on rapid reaction force deployment as well as serving on the board of Commissionaires Canada and as President of the Royal Military Institute of Manitoba.

Please Pray on this day, for our Patriot Armed Forces standing in harm’s way around the world in defense of our liberty, and for the families awaiting their safe return.
