Play Garry OwenMarch Past: GARRY OWEN

This Irish quickstep originated around 1800 and is known to have been used by several Irish regiments, including the 2nd Battalion, The Irish Regiment of Canada. Garry Owen is Gaelic for Owen's Garden, a suburb of Limerick in Ireland where the tune was adopted by the 5th Royal Lancers and was often used in the American Civil War (1861-65) by the Confederate Army.

It was a favorite of Brigadier-General George A. Custer, Commanding Officer of the 7th Cavalry Regiment and was the last tune played by the regimental band before Custer and five companies of the famous regiment was massacred by Indian tribes at the Little Bighorn River in 1876.

The march was adopted as the official Institute march, by the Royal Military Institute of Manitoba in 1997.

Please Pray on this day, for our Patriot Armed Forces standing in harm’s way around the world in defense of our liberty, and for the families awaiting their safe return.
