27 June 2005 - Hubbell Award

Winnipeg - The Royal Military of Institute of Manitoba in collaboration with the Winnipeg Airports Authority presented the Hubbell Award to Cadet CPO1 Elias Assefa, 213 RCSCC Qu’Appelle, and Cadet F/Sgt Bola Famuyide, 191 West Winnipeg Squadron RCACS. The award will be presented to Cadet Sgt Shawn Wilkinson, 2328 RCACC Flin Flon, at the Fall Concentration later this year.

Cadet Pipe Major Kendra Savage, 25 RCSCC Crusader, piped the winners through the Winnipeg International Airport to the delight of the many travellers. The ceremony was held in the Winnipeg Airports Authority executive offices.

The Hubbell Award is an educational bursary and a scroll depicting the award.

Awards are made annually to one cadet from each of the three elements. The nominees must be a member in good standing of a cadet unit in Manitoba and be a full time student. The winners are those cadets who best demonstrate the attributes of good citizenship, leadership, physical fitness and support to the community outside of the cadet movement.

Cadet CPO1 Elias Assefa graduated from Maples Collegiate in June 2005. He will attend Acadia University later this year where he will study political science and international relations. His career objective is to become involved in international politics.

Cadet F/Sgt Bola Famuyide recently completed grade 11 at Fort Richmond Collegiate. She will save the money from the scholarship to attend university where she will study for a career in the medical field.

The Royal Military Institute of Manitoba has been presenting the Hubbell Award since 1967. More recently the Winnipeg Airports Authority has assisted the RMIM by providing financial support. Earlier this year the RMIM incorporated the Hubbell Awards as a charity to help raise funds to assist with fund-raising.
